BIOGRAPHY

BRIAN KRINKE teaches violin and viola at Colorado Mesa University, as well as conducting the CMU Orchestra and teaching composition. He performs regularly as Concertmaster of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, and has performed as violin soloist throughout the country, including concerto performances with the Minnesota Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and the Boca Raton Symphony.

In addition to his work as a violinist, he has an extensive background as a pianist and composer. As a pianist Mr. Krinke has won international prizes in the Stravinsky Award International Competition, and the Young Keyboard Artists Association International Competition. As collaborative pianist he has toured Central America, performing for the President of Nicaragua and giving a chamber concert in the Teatro Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Mr. Krinke’s compositions have been performed in venues in New York City, including Merkin Hall and St. Paul’s Chapel, as well as at Princeton University, Colorado Mesa University and on the Blue Sage Concert Series. His works have been performed by principals of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra. Mr. Krinke studied composition at the University of Minnesota with Paul Fetler.

Described by the New York Times as an “accomplished and intrepid young player,” Brian Krinke has performed extensively as a recitalist throughout the country. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with Orli Shaham, Simone Dinnerstein, Lukas Foss, and with members of the Pro Arte, Daedalus, and Maia Quartets. He appeared in the world premiere of the Concerto for Two Violins by Calvin Hampton in Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis with the Plymouth Music Series, a performance broadcast live on Minnesota Public Radio.

A seasoned orchestral musician, he has served as Assistant Concertmaster of the Rochester Philharmonic and as Associate Concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Guest appearances also include performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center in New York. Mr.Krinke has appeared at the Bard Festival and the OK Mozart Festival. He now regularly performs in summers at Classical Tahoe.

A new music specialist, Mr. Krinke has premiered and recorded many violin works, in addition to working with composers such as Milton Babbitt, Andrew Imbrie and George Crumb. New music performance highlights include a residency at Bard College with the Da Capo Chamber Players and the June in Buffalo Festival, where he collaborated with violinist Crtis Macomber and the Cassatt Quartet. Mr. Krinke can be heard on the Naxos label performing chamber music by Jacobi and has recorded several violin works by Caroline Steinberg, available through CD universe and iTunes.

Mr. Krinke has a strong commitment to teaching violin at all levels. From 2005-2015 he trained gifted young violin students at the Special Music School in New York City, and his students performed frequently with the youth new music ensemble Face the Music in venues throughout New York City, including a collaboration with the Kronos Quartet in Carnegie Hall and concerto performances in Merkin Hall. His teaching experience includes positions at the State University of New York at Buffalo and at Wichita State University.


Mr. Krinke holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with renowned Carl Flesch students Szymon Goldberg and Felix Galimir, as well as former Juilliard Quartet member Joel Smirnoff. He performs on a 1908 Stefano Scarampella di Brescia.
