The Heights
The Heights could refer to Washington Heights, where you enter Manhattan over the George Washington Bridge, or Jackson Heights in Queens, where I raised my children. Both are places I lived in New York City. More generally, this piece is about the activity and emotions of my life in New York City. I wrote the Heights just after moving to Colorado, following twenty-five years of living in New York.
